Scholarships in UK

Scholarships in the UK are offered to international students based on merit-based, need-based, student-specific or course-specific grants. Besides scholarships, most Universities in the UK provide concession in the tuition fee if initial deposits are submitted within a stipulated deadline. The merit-based scholarships are highly competitive and require a focused application and noteworthy statement of purpose.

The amount of university-specific UK Scholarships varies depending on the student’s profile, ranging from £ 1,000 up to £ 6,000. Doctoral degrees in the UK are generally fully funded.

UK GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS

Chevening Scholarships

This scholarship is given by the UK govt. to academically outstanding students by the UK government’s Global Scholarships Program. These grants are usually for a one-year Master’s degree program in the UK. Most of these Scholarships cover the entire tuition fees, an economy class return airfare to the UK, living allowance (individual), and additional allowances to cover necessary expenditure.

Nearly 1,500 Chevening Scholarships are available for high academic performers all over the world in every academic cycle.

Commonwealth Masters Scholarships

Commonwealth Scholarships are offered by the Department for International Development (DFID) in the UK to the international students from developing Commonwealth countries wanting to pursue Masters and Ph.D. in the UK.

The scholarship offers airfare to and from the UK, thesis grant (if applicable), additional allowances to cover personal basic expenses, examination and tuition fees, all included.

Commonwealth Fellowship Plan

Commonwealth Fellowship Plan is a government initiative was taken especially for the students of Commonwealth countries which make the major contribution to their home country on the completion of the higher education program in the United Kingdom.

This scholarship covers the entire the tuition fee of the scholar, one economy-class return and many more allowances.

The Global Study Awards

The British Council, Study Portals and ISIC in partnership has initiated ‘The Global Study Awards’ to encourage international students to study in the UK The Global Study Awards recognises studying abroad as a positively life changing experience for many students, opening their minds to alternative ways of personal life and professional career, as well as promoting intercultural understanding and tolerance.

The Award prize will be applied toward the cost of tuition fees in the first instance, paid directly to the Higher Education Institution that the successful candidate will attend.

If tuition fees are below the maximum individual award fund of £10,000, the remaining funds may be allocated per diem for living costs for a maximum of 52 weeks starting from when the student first registered at the higher education institution.

This scholarship is opened twice a year to two international students.

Charles Wallace India Trust  Scholarships

Charles Wallace India Trust(CWIT Every year CWIT offers up to 10 long term awards, aiming at giving early to mid-career practitioners a chance to study or gain wider experience and exposure. The balance between Arts and Heritage Conservation varies from year to year depending on demand and performance at interview.

The awards, which are generally from 2–3 months up to a maximum of a year, cover accommodation and living costs in the UK, fees and a contribution to international fares. CWIT does not support two year courses.

British Council Great Scholarships for Indian students

British Council Great Scholarships announces around 198 scholarships with a total budget of £2.6 million every the academic year in partnership with 40 UK universities. The scholarships consist of approximately 169 Postgraduate and 29 undergraduate awards from art and design to engineering, law and management courses.

Felix Scholarship

Felix Scholarships are introduced for academically outperforming and disadvantaged students from India and different developing countries, having less than 30 years of age, who hold a first-class Bachelor’s degree from a renowned Indian university.

Maximum six scholarships are offered to the students to pursue their postgraduate education at the University of Reading & School of Oriental, the University of Oxford and African Studies each year by the Felix Scholarship Trust.

Erasmus Mundus

Erasmus Mundus Scholarship improved the quality of higher education through cooperation between Europe and the educational institutes throughout the globe. The financial backing for institutes and scholarships for people are provided by this program. The scholarship amounts vary depending upon the level of studies/teaching/research, the duration of their course and also on the nationality of the student.

A non-EU applicant receives a higher scholarship than that of EU applicant.

Apart from the above scholarships other scholarships are provided by the universities as per the students’ eligibility.
